Team Carrie – Carrie Strong Fund

“Let’s Do This!!!”

Those words were among the first shared with me when Carrie learned of her diagnosis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Carrie’s determination to do everything she could to battle her disease and live her life to the fullest, as well as her openness in sharing her fight publicly, is the reason our family is determined to keep Carrie’s legacy alive. In honor of Carrie and courage and of her love of life, people and her family, we established the Team Carrie – Carrie Strong Fund at the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles.

Through the support of all of those who Carrie touched and loved, our family fund will identify the most promising young researchers and research projects most likely to find a cure for Carrie’s disease. Team Carrie will focus on research aimed at determining the best ways to prevent any other young woman from having to receive same diagnosis as Carrie.

Our efforts will also include educating the public and the medical profession that non-smoking young women are at risk of contracting this aggressive form of cancer – even if they never smoked cigarettes. All too frequently, by the time the diagnosis is made, the cancer has already spread, complicating treatment and preventing the disease from being cured. Earlier detection is critical in order to spare other women from facing the same challenge as Carrie.

Additionally, Team Carrie will support those other charitable ventures in which Carrie believed.

Carrie was blessed with an ability to connect with people. She had a unique gift of being able to actively listen to others and in doing so, to be able to share experiences, thoughts, fears and desires.

Help us continue Carrie’s ability to connect with all of those around her by making a gift to Team Carrie and ensuring that she will never be forgotten.

For all of you who have given, we give our heartfelt thanks. For all of who plan to give – we encourage you do so generously, as Carrie always did in order to help us repair the world and continue Carrie’s legacy, and to honor a wonderful mother, friend and soulmate who was loved by so many.

Love to all of you who have supported us and who continue to support Carrie, who will be missed by so many.

With love,

Michael, Rachel, Zachary, Shoshanna, Marty, Evy, Robin and Michelle
